Overview of Sibuan Island, Semporna Island Hopping

Day 19, Sat, 15 November 2014

Leaving Bohey Dulang makes me feel grateful for braving myself to Semporna solo despite all of the advises and objections I’ve heard and received. I appreciate all of the kind advises but I have come to terms in understanding that anything and everything can happen no matter where you are. That being said, of course I wouldn’t have gone to Semporna if it was undergoing war or massive riot at that point of time. But because I have searched through the news and by far nothing out of the ordinary is happening there, therefore I feel confident to explore the area. Well, with prayers to the Almighty too.

So this is what I get – a great fondest and the most memorable trip ever. After a great lunch and getting the chance to view the most picturesque sight in Bohey Dulang, we moved on to Sibuan Island, one of the most beautiful Island in the Celebes Sea. On the map, Pulau Sibuan looks like a tear drop to me. Look at the photos below. Isn’t it?

But most sites would refer to it as a long and narrow with triangular view from above. Oh wells, to each their own eh. =) From afar, the Island can be seen filled with coconut trees in the middle. As you get closer, you’ll get to see a small military base located at the end of the Island. The glistening crystal clear water radiates with its hue of blues in correspond to the sky above. The sands were a powdery white particles like those you pat on baby’s bum or like the flour you used to make pizza or bread. Yes, it is that soft. Feeling it in between my toes, I feel loved and I could hear the song by ‘Wet Wet Wet – Love is All Around’, playing in my head.

“I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
The love that’s all around me
And so the feeling grows
It’s written on the wind
It’s everywhere I go
So if you really love me
Come on and let it show”

Snorkeling in Sibuan Island

If that description of the water and sands isn’t enough to entice you, then what about the crystal clear sea which opens up to you to a whole new world of the life beneath the surface with corals, reefs, fishes and starfish awaiting to say ‘Hi’ to you with the song,

“Under the sea
Under the sea
Darling it’s better
Down where it’s wetter
Take it from me
Up on the shore they work all day
Out in the sun they slave away
While we devotin’
Full time to floatin’
Under the sea
Down here all the fish is happy
As off through the waves they roll
The fish on the land ain’t happy
They sad ’cause they in their bowl
But fish in the bowl is lucky
They in for a worser fate
One day when the boss get hungry
Guess who’s gon’ be on the plate?”

Here’s some photos I’ve brought back for you my dear readers.

How to get to Semporna

Loving it already? What are you waiting for? Go get the air flight tickets to:

  • Tawau, 80 km from Semporna then get on the minivans or bus to Semporna in 1 — 1.5 hours.
  • Or book a flight to Kota Kinabalu and get on the bus which will take about 9 hours to Semporna.
  • Otherwise you can also book a return flight to Sandakan then take a 5 hours bus to Semporna.

The options are endless. The journey may sound long and tiring but it will sure be worth every second while you were exploring the Islands around Semporna.

One last stop will mark the end of Day 19, an emotional one for me when the day ends. So be sure to subscribe to follow through my adventures. Videos coming up in next post!

Till then;
